The topic of power always interested me as an observer and psychology nerd because I've seen how strongly people are affected by it. They're people who know how to use it and people who don't. I'm sure you've seen it, too, when you reflect on seeing people you care about thrive or wilt in different environments. The reason this is important is because most businesses are created to thrive; however, in order to thrive you need engaged and healthy employees. No one is thriving—at least not for long—in a toxic environment.

Here's a list of of qualities of social power dynamics to clearly define the difference:

Power house:

May include management who utilizes Leadership Power, Referent Power, Reward Power.

Values and behavior: Transparent - Healthy Ego - Empowering Others - Integrity - Creating Safety and Security for the Pack - Respectful - Open & Honest Communication - Encouraging Learning - Honoring Reasonable Work-life Balance - Bringing Out The Best in Your Team

Power prison:

Includes management who utilizes Coercive Power.

Values and behavior: Dishonest - Status Driven - Force - Fear - Inconsiderate - Taking Advantage of Weakness - No Balance or Security - Unhealthy Competition - Unrealistic Expectations - Jealousy - Gossip and Smear Campaigns (Unethical Politics) - Cutting Employees Off Without Notice
